Default Thorens TD-124 Idler Wheel Refurbishment

I've put a couple of videos on my Facebook page - one showing a TD-124 idler wheel having its edge ground back to fresh rubber on a specialist rubber grinding lathe, and the other showing my own method for using a bit of melamine foam block (Magic Eraser) to further 'polish' the rubber rim of an idler to reduce noise down as far as is realistically possible with these things.

Idler refurbishment is not something that I offer on a commercial basis, but if anyone needs a TD-124 idler wheel brought back to life, the cost is usually just the return postage and packaging plus the cost of a new bushing if that's needed.

Thanks Jo. I did consider getting into selling nice hardwood armboards etc for the TD-124 but while I can certainly compete on quality, there is too much cheap (and frankly poorly made) stuff out there that it's not worth me commissioning a production run large enough to bring costs down. The TD-124 is a bit of a love affair for me - the one bit of audio equipment that I couldn't sell.

    Righty-ho!

Had the refurbished 'Idler' in the deck now for a couple of days now and I have to say that it's simply superb. Lower noise and much stronger speed on the strobe.

All in all, with Hugo's impeccable service and knowledge I can only recommend the idler wheel refurbishment a great upgrade.

lol.. yes.. it made no sense to me this morning either.

What I meant was that the strobe gets to speed much quicker.
