You need to make sure that if using rawl plugs etc. that the screw length is a little longer than the length of the rawl plug and object it is fixing into the wall (the stack).

An M5 screw should fit in the hole, but the details of the diameter should be there on the Internet somewhere.

I'd go for hexagon bolts. About 25-30mm in length. I made a turntable shelf using two brackets and a piece of plywood. I've stood on it and I'm 17st. It's as solid and can be.
