    Default FS: Earmax Pro

A wonderful little headphone amp that's really easy to listen to and takes up very little space. I'm including all the tubes I bought for it as they're no use to me without it but they were fun experimenting with (it was my first tube amp). My favourite combo is a GEC central tube and Mullard outputs, but the Philips are probably more accurate. It comes with the original Chinese tubes installed, which sound very different to the vintage ones.

The middle Philips tube may be nearing the end of its life (possibly, it sounded a bit odd the last time I used it) and the GEC I like most has a very faint hum with HD800, but they're still worth trying. The rest all worked perfectly the last time I used them, but once I found my best combo I just stuck with that.

Price is £400 cash on collection from Oxford (easy parking). I can also ship insured for £20, but the spare tubes are at buyers risk doing that. I have the original box for the amp itself and will pack the tubes as securely as possible.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

Thanks Grant, it's a lovely sounding thing.

I just re-read my original post and noticed that the middle paragraph about the Philips tube stands out a bit much. Just to be clear: the tubes that it came with and the vast majority of the others all work fine. I just flagged up the Philips and GEC (both bought later to experiment with) in the spirit of honesty. I've also found an old set of Tungsram (I believe) output tubes from my first EMP (from many years ago) that still work, although they're 'well used' now. I'll include them as well, but don't have any boxes for those so they'll just be bubble-wrapped.
