    Default Photography 2017

OK, so for next year and whilst the weather is not too good, I have geared up for a re-interest in silver halide photography.
It is well known by myself and others that digital black and white is bloody awful but you know, I still had to prove it to myself. I did just that. So, for next year, I now have a very trusty Nikon FM2n with an MD12 autowind with, displayed here, a Nikkor 50mm f1.2 lens. I also have a Sigma 105mm f2.8 macro lens and a Nikkor 20mm f2.8 AFD so that is me taken care of for seascapes and landscapes and of course portraits. For close up and dark jazz gigs I shall use the 50 mill. Looking good from here.

    Atlas Hyper MkII interconnects
QED Reference Audio 40 on phono stages
    Grado SR125e headphones

I applaud this move, great kit you have there. I do find though that with post precessing of digital files using applications such as Nik Silver Efex you can get some reasonable digital black and white images.

Sounds like fun Shaun. Love that F1.2 50mm lens. Will you be developing your own film?
    Mr. Tact!

Main system: MMs/ADCs/Low output MC's/One rare Japanese SUT/One scarce British phono stage/various tonearms/hefty Japanese DD TT and hefty Japanese BD TT and small British BD TT. 4 CD players/2 jitter buster/2 DACs/Valve buffer. TVC stepped attenuator or valve pre-amp or solid state pre-amp. Current dumping power-amp or either of two Class A SS power-amp or Class A EL34 valve monos or big Japanese (part Class A) integrated. Big dual concentric speakers/Smaller dual concentric speakers/Two way British compacts and full range speakers, amongst others. And too much more to list!

Robert I have used Silver Efex and Colour Efex Pro for quite a few years now and although it is good, it just doesn't capture the same depth of quality as film.

I think this a great idea, so much so I've been inspired to dig out my old Minolta AF500 35mm and order some films. Unfortunately I won't be able to process them myself but there are a couple of really good photographic shops nearby. I do enjoy the versatility of digital photography but it does make me lazy. Looking forward to the results......just as long as I get none of those annoying " this photo is shit " type stickers lol.

Processing the negs is easy and very enjoyable and the kit needed is minimal investment

Film is great very hands on like LP's thats why I love it

I have a vast amount of film cameras and lenses and only one digital EOS 650D

Also just bought one of these with around 14k shutter activations. Absolute bargain for a fullframe sensor DSLR here fitted with a 50mm Nikkor.
The whole thing with the additional battery grip was around a grand secondhand including also the lens.
All I need now is spring/summer.

    Interesting .
I have a couple of early 70's Nikon F's ( in Black.. dohh :-) with a few carefully selected (useful to purposes Nikkor lenses.. even Motor drives. Even used an El Nikkor . All bought brand new.
Used to do a LOT of B&W photography. Then stopped altogether.. for like 30 years. Stuff filled a closet, for decades.
Darkroom was packed up into too many boxes.. started to go thru them a couple of months back.. whistfully.
As aside; (Dunno about later Models).. but F's ..Require a slightly differing Voltage meter battery than what is easily available .
Wrong batteries messed readings and exposures for a while... before I discovered a usable substitute.
Currently only mfg'd in Germany, pricey but essential, I stocked up.

Discovered that Digital Prints (black and white) are basically lifeless imitations.
Sales kids claim otherwise . Bollocks ! Imo they simply don't have any reference points.

Have you found anything even approximating a well printed B&W??
Or If there is anything resembling AGFA paper?
My audio bits: Thorens / diy phono, CD/dvd player(s), diy pre, F6, Tannoy Golds in my boxes / my xovers, and of course all strung together with basic diy Wires
Lots of Cd's, yet more audio files, a couple of hundred semi worn Lps.
