cartridge resonance frequency

would some kind soul work out for me mine please.
my arm is an alphason hr100mcs at an effective mass of 11g
my cartridge is an ortofon mc-25fl at 10.5g
the calculators are over my head

Medium-mass arm, medium-compliance cartridge, it will be fine I wouldn't bother about the exact numbers, they may tell you the resonance but it won't tell you much really about the sound.

With the extra weight you can run really heavy cartridges that are lower compliance, and balance things out. But as you say you won't need that here.

Once you've bought both arm and cartridge, yes ... calculator/rules of thumb are helpful before spending the £££ though ....

Isolation mounting of a Cart really did help (do away?) with Arm resonance concerns for me.
I've used Foam tape in lieu of screws and despite it seeming daft...It works a treat.. seriously.
One could also source specialised Foam tapes that are used to isolate precision solid state Gyros... for the ultimate in isolation.
I'm tending to thoughts that Screws/bolts may not be the best possible way to mount a cart :-)

Hmm I got a Cartridgeman Isolator with a Catridgeman moving magmet cartridge once, s/h as part of the package. I wasn't convinced by it at all. My sense is that it may be a useful tweak on a cheapo tonearm/cartridge combo, but after forking out for decent kit I'd rather let the components do their job as their designers intended.

My general view is that messrs Sugano, Ikeda, Carr, and successive designers at the likes of Ortofon, Clearaudio etc, to say nothing of homegrown talent like our own J7 at Audio Origami, probably knew what they were doing and if top performance was as simple as a bit of foam tape then we'd all be using it.

But then again there's a market for cable lifters and Shakti stones so there you go ....

I agree - it does seem to fly in the face of accepted wisdom that there should be as tight and rigid connection between the cartridge body and arm as possible (though not as tight as some 'Flat Earthers' would have you make it!).

The only cartridge in my experience which can benefit from some decoupling is the Decca; but then Deccas are a law unto themselves.
