“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

You should be ashamed doing that at the age of fifty!
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Yesh, a motorbike is just a wee bit narrower than a large car! Oh, and at night you'd almost certainly have the road to yourself, along with the ability to see any headlights coming towards you for miles! There's three massive advantages straight away, travelling on that pass during those circumstances, despite your state of pishedness

You're also missing the point, daftee.... If I wasn't worried about damaging my rather nice car, due to (based on what I saw) the high likelihood of some old fart coming the other way not paying proper attention to the road conditions/having the inability to handle them, and crashing into me, then there would've been no issue

Yep, spot on in your analysis You missed the outrageous power to weight ratio of a motorbike though.. what 1:3 incline?

Indeed... Depends on the motorbike and car in question, though, and their respective drivers - particularly how fearless they were

On my first run through the pass during the day there was a 2CV which didn't have the power to get up one hill! The 3 passengers had to get out to lighten it and then give a good push!

Ha - I think a 2CV's happier going through a ploughed field than halfway up a mountain!

It's funny you say that, were they not originally designed for a gentleman who would be wearing a top hat, and be able to be driven over a ploughed field whilst holding a glass of wine?

I was told this when I first started in the car trade way back in the 70's but never found out if it was true not?
