I had an amp that would go into protection mode at high volume on 4ohm speakers. Didn't on 8ohm though hence the question.

They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

Like Grant said basically. Probably over sensitive protection circuitry.

A big problem for a manufacturer can be people will connect two or three sets of speakers in parallel "for a party" which will often cause an amp without protection to blow up... often they will short a fine wire on the back of a speaker when changing speakers as well. For best sound quality protection needs to be relatively lax or non existent. However.... people will often then try to "pull a fast one" on the dealer or manufacturer and claim that the amp, still under guarantee, "just went like that mate when I was listening to a quiet string quartet/when I switched it on"......

    Hi Jez

So speaking to someone in this field of experience what would you suggest do you think its OK to use? the level when projection cuts in i will never go to as i live in a flat its middle level plus a little bit more. Repairing sounds like it could be an expense but i want too keep this amplifier due to its specs if it needs repairing then it will have to be done....

    Thanks
    Daniel

If it only goes into protection at mind numbing volumes into 4R speakers then chances are it's fine. It shouldn't be possible to trip the protection into 8R speakers.
If there is a fault causing the amp to have DC offset then the protection seems to be detecting it and so your speakers should be ok.
A quick look on the web didn't find any circuit diagrams but Alex Nitikin who sometimes posts on AOS was the designer of some Creek amps and may be able to help you.

A few years ago, one of our customers managed to blow his speakers up 3 times. According to him, he only played Classical music, quietly and he was very disappointed. The last time, I phoned his home to say that they had been repaired and the phone was, fortunately, answered by his Daughter. She asked me why the speakers cut out each time she had a party ? The customer never brought them in for repair again.

Classic. Either he knew the daughter was blowing them up or I suppose she might have not told him about the parties and he thought they were just blowing on switch-on.

Yep, doesn't matter what the business, when money's at stake normally honest people can rapidly become stone-faced liars.
