I've played with DC Motors on Thorens they aint that ace..I had better results from a proper power supply for the standard Motor..The Voltera (Hercules in a box) & Heed Orbit 2 will fit the bill

I have memories of reading a review of a Linn LP12 being fitted with a DC motor kit, and the reviewer was very pleased with the result.

Linn on the other hand have rubbished any non Linn modifications.

I just find it funny that Linn now have a Radikal new motor drive system, and guess what - yep, it's DC motor based.

    Hi Shaun

Marco has pretty much summed it up really , i would add the little clip on the arm rest is plastic , its only when you have a closer look at one in the flesh , that you realize ' there is actually a pretty serious bit of engineering going here .

I would strongly urge you to listen to a modified 1200 1st before making any decision , again i agree with Marco don't bother with a stock 1200 ' its ok but as Gromit described it ' a bit of a one trick pony ' .

The thing is ' you have nice arm in the Alphason this might be a wonderful match for the techy.

What about your TD160 ' are you unhappy with it or do just crave a bit more ' is it an itch that needs scratching .

Is that where it get's more rubbish than it is? Is that possible?

    Joking aside
Shaun: That TD160Super/HR100S is a very good deck with a bit of non DC work.

    Ahh yes the plink '

The thing i remember is Linn reaction to it ' blimey i thought they were going to send the boys round to Arthur's place.

It all seem so Ridiculous really.

Still the question is can the TD160 be improved other than this DC kit ' what other options has Shaun got ' if any .

I haven't made any qualitative statements about the old fruit box

That said I'll stick to me TD125 for my occasional forays into my vinyl collection.

I know John's just done a sole for the TD150 complete with proper bearing mount, i see no reason why he can't do a TD160
