Been doing this myself this week. IM about half way through the albums for now, will finish them off and catalogue the 12" and E.P's afterwards. Wont bother with CDs probably although as they will all have barcodes on them i may do just for completeness sake.

Interesting selecting the right releases though. On some of them ive had to find the right release via the etching in the vinyls runout. For example i always thought i had an original Unknown Pleasures from Joy Division but turns out its the re-issue just after.

Aye it can be interesting to do; been getting into a flow today as not well, and it occupied me. Go nearly 130 done now. surprising how much some are worth and how little others...

The only thing i dont like about the wants list is when you locate a copy it does not remove it from the wants list

I use an App called "Milkcrate" that scans a barcode or you can input cat number on iPhone or iPad.....Then it links to Discogs databases and stores your collection - it's very easy.....about 500 loaded so far, only 5,000 or so to go....maybe a job if I ever retire.

Doesn't it say everything on the sleeves already? I'm not getting it yet - sounds like a lot of effort for something when the records are there on the shelves. Unless you're digitising everything and filling in the things for each file?

No your not are you? . When youve got hundreds of records you start to forget what you have, what issue it is, what condition its in and how much it may be worth. Just a few possibles. You have a easy to manage list in pour pocket you can access anytime.
You may be at a bootsale and woner if you have that one and find out quickly. You want to sell it then all the info etc is there whithout hunting for it ...
I sometimes forget some of the stuff ive got as it was bought in many cases many years ago.

Anyway i am up to 130+ now... Money is mounting up too. Lol

Interesting. People keep asking me what I'm going to do when I retire in a couple of weeks time ... now I have an answer

BTW, are those values actually achievable in the real world? Everytime I have ever taken LPs to dealers, they seem to think they are worthless

Not likely with dealers.. They are thieves lol..." They discogs, give you min, median and high over last 10 sales so yes they are achievable depending on condition and to an extent how many want to how many available etc
