    Tonearm update...

I got asked to write some comments upon the tonearm update from last night. Well, the deck's the best I've heard it. It's very subtle and I think the best way to describe it is that the deck has more poise within the soundstage. The background is black. Surface noise is extremely low to non-existant and on old vinyl massively reduced. Sibilance is virtually non-existant but does occur from time to time. I think the two main variables are coupling rigidity and parallel vinyl clearence height. I've also been messing around with the volts going into the motor and I'm down to 200 and I seem to be getting more detail out of the vinyl. I previously liked 215-220 volts but the Lenco is now spinning with 200 volts going through the motor and sounding great. I've still not tried the Mpingo spacer, maybe that's something for this coming week.

I appreciate this Andy . My equipment for setting this cartridge up is very basic . Coupled with my lack of knowledge and patience , it's not a good mix

Just a quick question . Bearing in mind that this is brand new , does anyone know if cleaning the record will help with sibilance ?
    Regards
    Brian

Are you still using the M55e Andy ? If so the Jico SAS should be a big jump again

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

In that case I'm thinking that maybe you should go back to a standard headshell and hear how that sounds before going any further Brian. Is the M55 the only cartridge you have?
    Ralph.
