Default Is this guy the future ? Jacob Collier.

Ive recently found out about this young man.

Lives in london, I believe, and records everything in his own bedroom and plays all the instruments.

Or, at least he used to. He is now getting worldwide recognition and is much in demand from some heavy players and bands.

    Huge talent, I feel. Fantastic

Here is some early stuff, which he posted on You Tube.

Thanks Brian for the heads up. What you linked to on You Tube reminds me a bit of Todd Rundgren's album A cappella

    Regards Neil

    Neil, thanks.

i didnt know that album , so had a quick listen. the first 10/15 seconds or so were interesting when the A cappella singing was happening. But after that it went into a groove which I just found boring,. the same thing just over and over, especially the drum groove. Not for me, Im afraid.

This young guy reminds me of the A Cappella group. Take 6.

But, I find this young guy even more ground breaking and inventive.
try another of his "made in the bedroom" arrangements. fantastic A Cappella.. never mind at such a young age. At any age.

    I'm Adam.

    Default

I saw him last year at the North Sea Jazz festival in Rotterdam Holland
He was very good live .. did this clever live sampling thing where he would record a riff or moment on an instrument and go through all the instruments like that. Each one recorded and filmed and at the climax of the piece all the samples and films were integrated together and the piece of music came to life (so a whole band of him playing 'live') with him then taking centre stage (actually in the flesh) singing and scatting and the finished ensemble playing the whole tune on a huge screen behind him.
It was pretty impressive..and he's only about 12 years old (I jest)
He's very middle class, very educated (not sure why I say this) but very talented... oh and very English!
Apparently Quincy Jones says he is the dogs danglies!
    Good kid.

As you say Adam a very talented "kid" The only thing lacking I suppose is the abitilty to compose original tunes rather than reworking other peoples stuff although I suppose that may come in time.
