    Ok, but just checking here, if I'm planning going say, mac to apple airport express into a Caiman into an amp, then ALAC is no different to any other lossless format, no?

    Yes, ALAC is a true lossless format : no worse (and no better) than any other.
    It's perfect as long as you stay with your MAC and your AE.
