    Default headshell?

Hi folks I'm looking to pick your collective brains on headshells please.

My stock 1210 will shortly have an at 150 mlx fitted to it but I'm wondering if I should replace the stock headshell at the same time? As ever I don't want to spend a fortune so I'm after opinions on anything up to say £40 new or used.

    Thanks in advance

    Ben

The Sumiko used to be favoured as a decent, cheap headshell.

I found the Sumiko too heavy with the 150MLX. The best combo I found was Ortofon SH-4 with the Technics aux weight fitted to the the arm.

That's it. It's just to add additional weight to the back of the arm for heavier cartridges. The 150MLX doesn't really need it but it allows you to get the main weight closer to the pivot point. It just sounded slightly better this way with the SH-4

Don't use the Sumiko headshell with an MM, it's too heavy. Either use the standard Technics headshell or something like an ADC magnesium or Denon PCL-5. The lighter the better.
