    The Garrard Zero 100S had a counter that advanced a small amount up a scale on the bearing housing each time the arm moved towards the record.

    This is how I do it. The Hammond enclosure houses a hour meter as well as the needle valve and connectors for adjusting air pressure for the Trans-Fi Terminator tonearm. The hour meter is plugged into a socket that is energized whenever the turntable is spinning so it overestimates a bit.

    Separate tally counter for each cartridge, with each side 'clicked' the total is approx 3x the hours played ...
