Gonna have to be Al Pacino, but De Nero was close. His performances in Heat, Dog Day Afternoon and The Godfather are I reckon unmatched. Scent of a Woman was a superb performance too.

I know it's a mainstream choice but I'd probably say Tom Hanks, so many great movies. More recently I've enjoyed Captain Phillips and the fabulous Bridge of Spies.

That was as we discussed him last night..i liked some of his stuff but he is not at that level. The howard hughes film and gangs he was excellent and way above his usual. Seems to have gone back a bit now though.. Think he is trying to be what he is not a bit too much..
