They sounded good at the demo. Been up since six as had to go over to Sheffield to get them, lovely drive across the moors. Devon and the Lakes may grab all the glory but Staffordshire and Derbyshire have some of the most beautiful countryside ... in the world. Especially this time of year. Stopped on the way back for a spot of venison casserole and a swift half of Black Sheep. Yom yom, but now feeling very drowsy.

Need to make up some bi-wire links before I can try them, which is a pain but can't be helped.

I suspect they probably won't, I think they might still be a bit too small for the room, but they should do as a stop-gap.

I wanted some modern speakers as I'm all vintage at the moment. I need a variety so I can get my head around what I actually want when I build my own. Hence me trying lots of different speakers recently. Plan at the moment is to build a very large JBL clone with 15 inch bass driver and cell horn loaded compression driver, fully active with digital xover and eq. I'm looking at having that project finished for my Fiftieth so I've go two years to accumulate the bits as they won't be cheap.

“Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio”

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

It isn't so much bass depth as that ease of delivery you only get with a big driver in a big box. I reckon it is why so many people end up with big Tannoys. Anyway I'm starting to recover so will embark on setting them up and then we will see what the story is. Another cup of tea first, though.

It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Got them out and set up. That wasn't easy. The 'wall of speakers' behind the one on the right will be dismantled upstairs tomorrow. Hopefully. Just need to make up some jumpers from a foot of 79 strand I found whilst putting the boxes away, and then we're off!

Deffo the classiest looking pair of speakers I've ever owned. Makes it look like I have actually spent serious money this time, although I haven't. This does push the total cost of the system to £2K though, which isn't chicken feed in the real world even if it is in the hi-fi one.
