I'm gone.
A quote from the Stereophile review of Martin's amp ----
"And perhaps that's also my only real criticism: that it has lost some of the slam, the "Wham, Bam, thank you, Dan!," that characterized the original KSA-50"
So maybe it is just one of the compromises in the amp's sound.
.
Well there is certainly a slight 'veiling' coming from somewhere. I've had it better than this before. At a loss really. On paper everything is right.
One thing that has been bothering me is that the plugs on the speaker cable are quite loose fit into the sockets on the Krell. although they are a tight fit at the other end into the speakers. Could this be a factor?

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

How to sort that then?

if you have an assortment of cables etc try a few plugs til you find 4 tight ones and the fit them. if they are all loos then get the sockets replaced.

I'd suggest Nordost type 'Z' plugs. They make good tight contact and can even be opened out a bit to make them tighter.

It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!
What interconnects are you using Martin? They can make a big difference.

Haven't soldered in 20 years. That's not going to happen. Will try some other cables with chunkier plugs.
