Thought the idea was a bit daft when they were first introduced. I can't see any advantage at all in having a vertical turntable.

I nearly bought one of those Mitsubishi systems once - it was in Apollo (remember them?) and heavily discounted. Not the exact one Al linked to but very similar. About 1986. I was with my old man and he said a vertical TT was a stupid idea so I bought an Aiwa instead.

the seller says the arm is not lifting...I have repaired a couple of Japanese turntables of this type and vintage and the problem is always the same.
the arm is driven by a small motor...lift and traverse across the disc...the small rubber belt supplying drive turns to black goo over the years.
the last one I fixed, a TRIO linear tracker, was bought back to life using the belt from a spare computer cd rom drive...curiously this was a perfect match.

Very nice it was.
I tried playing it on its edge but the platter kept falling off

I'd like to know how the tracking force is set... spring loaded?

Didn't catch on did it. And what about the amplifier, tuner etc.?
Apropos "VTF" (or in this instance "horizontal tracking force"), that would be set by a spring.

This is an all-in-one music centre so are built in - can see them under the record player part.
It did catch on... but what happened was the record player was ditched or those ones which leave 3/4 of the LP sticking out the corner were given as options.
