    Default Scalford Show Updated Parking..

Here is the latest update regarding Parking for those of you wishing to go to Scalford

Important Show Update - Verge Parking At The Show will be PERMITTED
Thank you to everyone who has provided feedback on the Park & Ride arrangements for Scalford this year, both on this forum and elsewhere.

It is clear that the majority of visitors support this measure, which we have implemented to resolve issues raised in previous years.

However, some people have expressed that they would like a choice.
Not everyone wants to take the bus and would like the option to park at the show as in previous years.
They would rather walk to the show from their car.
If they are unable to park, then some will not attend, and some may not attend.
This represents a minority, but still a sizeable number of visitors.

Our job as organisers is to ensure as many people who want attend the show feel they can, to ensure our exhibitors get their systems heard and appreciated.

With this in mind, we have opted to relax the parking restrictions to allow guests to have a choice with regards their parking arrangements.

    Our official policy on parking arrangements at the show have been amended as follows;

    - The Park & Ride will be run as planned. As organisers of the show, our view hasn't changed - P&R is by far the best solution to an ongoing problem. We strongly recommend to any Sunday visitors that you use this facility. Our peak capacity will be approx 300 people per hour. It will run from 9am (1 hour before the show) and finish at 6pm (1 hour after the show finishes).

    - The hotel car park will remain closed on the Sunday. We can not allow the chaotic parking of previous years to continue. Not only does it prevent access for emergency vehicles, but the Park & Ride coaches would not be able to drop off and pick up guests.

    - The grass verge will be coned for approximately 100 metres in either direction. Parking will be strictly prohibited within this area. This will ensure that the junction will be kept clear and safe.

    - We will not enforce the restriction of car parking outside of this area. Whilst we strongly recommend you try and park & ride facilities, you can, entirely at your own risk, park on the grass verge. You may get stuck if the weather is bad. It is your choice.

If the majority of visitors try the park & ride, and a small minority use the verge, then we have an acceptable compromise.
Scalford Road will be much clearer, keeping local residents much happier.
Visitors who do not want to take the buss won't be put off coming, and those who have supported the park & ride can benefit from it's introduction.
Hopefully those who don't use the P&R this year, will see how well it can work, and persuaded to use it in future years, thus helping to lessen the parking problem over time.

    How You Can Help

Please link to this update on any other forums or message boards you post on to spread the word of the park & ride and revised parking restrictions.

See you all at the show

    Hi Anthony,

Thanks for the update. That's great news for us determined car-goers, and much appreciated

However, as I'm not entirely familiar with the layout of the grounds of the hotel, could you clarify where exactly this "grass verge" is?

Ok, talk me through it... I've left the main (country) road leading to the hotel entrance, and turned up the driveway, heading towards the hotel... Where is this "grass verge" from there?

    Marco.

I read it as the 'grass verge' ouside the hotel grounds on the Scalford raod. not the entrance way 'grass verge'. I may be wrong.

There is no parking at the Hotel including the driveway except for exhibitors and pre-booked disabled spaces. The grass verges mentioned are the ones outsite the hotel entrance on the public road.

Ah I see... That's not how I read it.

Unfortunately, that changes nothing for me then, and still means if I'm coming to the show, it'll need to be by taxi, as I'm not parking my car on a public road. However, I would certainly encourage others, if they feel happy about that, to do so

Because of the parking issue there is a very good case for venue change. Easier said than done I suspect and I am sure that'd cause an even bigger mass of complaints. At least initially.

Hey ho, enjoy the show anyway for those who are going
