    Default Greetings from WI

Hello all, I've been lurking on here for a few months but just realized I never made an intro post! I'm from the snowy land of Wisconsin, and have a passion for a wide variety of music and audio gear. Generally I prefer listening to Drum n Bass, happy hardcore, house, and some older hardstyle and dubstep tracks I have on vinyl, stretching over into arena rock and all the way into death metal. There's also a soft spot in my heart for some crappy pop music from time to time , and several other genres in between.

As far as gear goes, I started out collecting vintage gear after I started doing repairs on my dad's old Sansui (forgotten the model unfortunately) and really enjoying the hobby. I currently have 2 Shure SR105B power amplifiers that I am in the process of recapping and upgrading the connections which will be used to power a pair of Polk TSx330s that I have in the living room. These amps will be fed from a RadioShack 15ch EQ that will also be overhauled to work as a preamp until I can purchase the one I'm currently saving for. In place of the Shure amps at the moment, I have a Yamaha RXV475 powering everything and working for my Raspberry Pi media center as a DAC via HDMI while I build my GPIO DAC. The living room also has my Marantz SD6000 tape deck for some of the tracks I only have on tape at the moment.

I also have a pair of Pioneer CS-A31 speakers and a pair of Polk TSi100 bookshelf speakers that will be powered by a Sansui G5700 once it also finishes undergoing its recap (I have been in Texas for almost 2 months for work so I'm a bit behind on my projects lol) that gets its signal from either my computer via an Asus Xonar Essence STX, or from my Cambridge 651P that is connected to my WIP SL1210MK2.

The SL1210 I got on eBay from a pawn shop that bought it off a DJ, since I planned on modding the deck anyways and it was a good price. Unfortunately the tonearm was shot when I received the deck, so I knew right off the bat I would "have to mod it." As it sits, I currently have a Jelco SA750DB tonearm in the box right next to the deck as well as a TTWAudio SuperVTA tonearm base. I have an order in with Speedy Steve for an ebony armboard for the tonearm, I have caps, diodes, resistors, etc on order to make the external PSU for the deck, and I will be ordering either an Oyaide tonearm cable or the Yannis Tome tonearm cable with the Pure Harmony Silver RCA connectors. As far as a cartridge goes, I am debating between saving for a Soundsmith Gold Denon DL103, or just getting a vanilla DL103 and waiting for a bit so I can stop waiting and start jamming!

Future mods for the deck include Isonoe feet, custom Cherry or Maple enclosure with a sandbox beneath coupled with Mapleshade brass triplepoints, possibly a DIN/headshell removal/tonearm rewire and a nicer cartridge. I also would like to replace all the regulators with the Paul Hynes ones once I get a good feel for the deck's "stage 1 mods" sound signature. Being that the Denon cartridge is a lower output than my pre, I will also have to upgrade that in the near future as well.

I plan on replacing the Polks in my living room with either a pair of Polk LSiM707s, Revel F206s, or saving for a pair of Vandersteens Treos if the difference will really be worth the extra cash. As far as the office system goes, I don't really have any other plans other than replacing/complimenting the Sansui with a HK Citation II amp, as I really would like to have a valve setup to "get away" from all the solid state sometimes.

Sorry for the wall of text; TLDR I have a modded SL1210, a Marantz SD6000, 2 Shure SR105B powering a pair of Polk TSX330, and a Sansui G5700 powering 2 Polk TSi100 and 2 Pioneer CSA31 Looking forward to being a part of this community!

    Hi Alex. Welcome to AOS.

That's an interesting and unusual selection of equipment you run.

You've come to the right place for a Technics enthusiast. I take it you've visited the Analogue Arts section and looked at the Techiepedia sub forum?

Your Shure amplifiers sound interesting. I don't know those. Have you got photos?

    Enjoy the forum,
    Geoff.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Of course! I'll edit this post with some pictures up once I get back home; I'm not able to post image links successfully from my phone so I will wait til I get it on the computer. One amp is in a bit of bad shape, but it was a $50 music go round special so I couldn't pass it up

Welcome Alex... Not unusual for folk to join then forget to post so no worries.. Plenty techy users here and there is a section in analogue set aside for them.
    Enjoy the forum.

The Pioneer CSA31 look interesting (if you are interested in vintage Jap speakers like me, I suppose)

Found this decent quality video on u-tube showing all the internals:

    Welcome to AoS Alex,

You may have posted your maiden post a bit late, but don't worry - you have made up for it by the great introduction!

The Shure power amps are new to me; some photos of your kit would be good to see.

    Welcome again

Got the pictures taken, so here they are! Sorry for the quality; a new camera is something I need to invest in as I currently only have my cell camera lol. Enjoy! This amp I got off fleabay for a really good price. NOS NIB

Sorry for the dirtiness of this one; it was sitting on the shelf at a local music store for at least a year and I picked it up being was priced as such:

The NOS amp also included the service/operating manual. Some highlights:

Also Macca, I do enjoy the CSA31s, they just can get a bit fatiguing after listening for a while. I'm thinking about refreshing the xover and repadding the boxes to see if that will help somewhat. Here's some pictures from my old place:
