Thanks for everyone's replies have tried the bic method and worked!!!,however may well take up on Marco's
Offer as some are still fighting the pen and don't want to get too brutal. ( Marco I go fishing at Bangor on Dee and sometimes see bands in Wrexham - Focus Wales, Hawkwind coming up soon so could pop by if convenient) .
Everyone's help much appreciated as being a newbie on here thought I was asking a stupid question .

The BIC pen method works to a degree, but it's not the best solution, as essentially all that's happening is you're forcing the blockage from one side of the hole to the other, by just pushing it through, so when you play the side of the record which the blockage has been transferred from (the side that the pen wasn't forced through), the hole will still be tighter than it should be.
With the Clearaudio tool, you're actually drilling (and widening) a completely new hole in the record, and one that's designed to fit the spindle perfectly - thus the problem is permanently eradicated!

This may seem obvious, but if the problem is the Thorens spindle then you may end up with loose fitting records should you change turntables.

You dont. I moved to a jbe and its spindle is smaller but everything fits nice and easy as it should. Tbh all my old records, of which ive many fitted the thorens ok, but stuff from say the 80's on often didnt. It isnt much but enough to make it not quite fit without banging on. Removing a tight one is harder than getting it on lol

PS if you are wondering why the diameter of the drill bit is 7.33mm, that's because the specification for the centre hole is 7.24 -0/+0.09 mm.
