Decided to clean up my Akai and try it again. needs something done re on off switch witch has a habit of stopping in the on position. Dunno if I an find another to swap out. Otherwise is seems to be working well.

If you mean the motor keeps running in the off position it could be that the switch just wants cleaning.
There is normally a micro switch in the right tension arm that switches the capstan motor on / off, this auto stops the motor if you come to the end of the tape
Test it with no tape on just by lifting the arm up and down
use a meter across each switch to see if functions correctly
