Default Spendor BC1 type speakers on eBay

Looking under Spendor on eBay, I came across an interesting pair of speakers.
Very much in the Spendor BC1 mould, using the Celestion and Coles units, plus a
Richard Allen HP8 Bextrene bass/mid. driver.

The cabinets are 18mm chipboard with bitumastic damping, etc.
    They look well made.

At £295 'Buy Now', I suspect someone will be tempted...

The choice of the Richard Allan bass/mid driver is a little unfortunate. I've tried that particular unit and found it imparted a slowness and dullness to the overall sound.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

IMO, a lot of money for DIY BC1 lookalikes.

That is an interesting observation, as others have said similar things according to what I've read on the Internet.

There is a section of the audio industry that feels that:

    (a) Bextrene is not as 'fast' sounding as Polypropylene.
    (b) Bextrene, if employed correctly, gives a better midrange
    than some poly. drive units.

I am not trying to defend the use of Richard Allen bass/mid. drivers
    with these speakers.

Spencer Hughes' drivers were something special
and likely to outperform the RA units in this particular case.

Having said that, it would be interesting to hear these speakers,
    being a BC1 owner.

They didn't sell on eBay, after all.

Whoever built them put a lot of work into it,
but I suspect people wanting the 'Spendor Sound' will save up
    for a pair of BC1s.

    Update.
The eBay info. was misread by my good self.
I've been emailed that they did actually go for the 'Buy Now' price of £295
