Presumably. Looks like the earth is clamped between the head and tube.

I suspect the arm is made to be a tight interference fit into the head block and pressed in with an adhesive used as well.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Pull it through so it hangs out of the front. Solder a thin wire on the end (with a bit of sleeving) to extend it. Feed this back inside and out of the hole on the side and earth it. See if that gets rid of the hum.

It's unlikely that the arm tube will earth directly via the rear clamp. It has a thickish enamel (powder coat?) finish that will no doubt act as an insulator.

Yep. Tried that and broke two wires.

    Just found this

From what I can tell with mine, this is correct. That yellow wire in the arm isn't connected to anything that I can see. There is a separate yellow wire entwined with the black - wire from the cart to 4pin sip. Where it goes after that I don't know. I know the wiring diagram says to connect the external cable earth to the fixing plug so where would the internal yellow cable run to ?? I'm absolutely lost.

I'm going to have to take a trip to Firebottle towers I think.
