    Ah, maybe that was my problem. The SCM40 sounded truly horrible in my friend's system.

    I also owned (briefly!) active ATC SCM10 standmounters. They didn't screech like the passive 40, but they didn't do anything much worthwhile either, imho - "meh" would be my 1-Word-Review.

    But I have heard a pair of active 50 at the Scalford show 2 or 3 years back and was well impressed by those.

    A friend of mine has ATC SCM35 speakers, driven by a quite old ATC integrated amp. The combination is rather beguiling.

    Cables & Sundries: Mark Grant HDX1 interconnects and digital coaxial cable, plus Mark Grant 6mm UP-LCOFC Van Damme speaker cable. MCRU 'Ultimate' mains leads. Lehmann clone headphone amp with vintage Koss PRO-4AAA headphones.

    Tube Distinctions digital noise filter. VPI HW16.5 record cleaning machine.

    Speakers: Tannoy 15MGs in Lockwood cabinets with modified crossovers. 1967 Celestion Ditton 15.
