    Default DietPi V100 Imminent

    Exciting times!

Diet Pi has been under heavy development and v100 is about to drop. This version completes the migration to 'Jessie' (the current version of Debian / Raspbian) and also sees DP establish itself as probably the most comprehensive platform for building audio devices on a Pi.

In v100 you are now able to install the following audio platforms / programs

    MiniDLNA
    http://sourceforge.net/p/minidlna/git/ci/master/tree/

    MPD
    http://git.musicpd.org/cgit/master/mpd.git/

    YMPD
    https://github.com/notandy/ympd

    SubSonic
    www.subsonic.org

    SqueezeBox
    https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver

    Ampache
    https://github.com/ampache/ampache

I'm really looking forward to testing out Ampache, when I first started using Subsonic it was the only real competitor on features but development on it had died off. Since then it's come back into active development and is a lot more free than Subsonic (no 'premium' licence aspect).

For the next cycle I'm going to be working on ensuring the installation of subsonic is as minimal as possible.

As well as a range of software options (and i2s DAC drivers) dietpi also includes a number of simple tools to tweak and maintain your pi with - including dietpi-sync which can back up your music folder (across the network if needed) and keep track of changes, dietpi-backup which enables you to back up your whole configured system and dietpi-nice which lets you change the processing priority of the apps you've got installed, channelling resources to the most important ones.

Try it for yourself with info and images available at http://dietpi.net

This look great, I'll definitely try it.

Do you know if it supports hiface?

It has an up-to-date kernel so it should work - if we can work out which module to install!

The developer 'Fourdee' is very responsive so if we work out how to do it he will almost certainly add it as an option (you can already select all of the hifiberry-dac drivers as part of the configuration tool.

I don't know if this is important or not, but the Hiface 1 is not a DAC, it's just an USB to S/PDIF converter.

I would like to try Subsonic, but no NAS support?

Just mount your NAS (by samba or ftp) to dietpi (by default they'll mount to /mnt/samba or /mnt/ftp_client), then direct Subsonic to the folder in the webapp.

In the dietpi-config program you can define where samba shares are, so that they're automatically mounted at boot time. You just need to know the IP of the NAS and the share name.

Sharing by FTP is preferable however as it delivers a much faster transfer rate.

Let us know how you get on.

    v100
    (07/11/15)

    New Image: http://dietpi.net

DietPi for Orange Pi PC is now available (Beta): http://www.orangepi.org/orangepibbse...extra=page%3D1

    New Features:

DietPi-Cleaner | New program. Allows you to remove unwanted 'junk' (eg: CCleaner) to free up system resources. http://fuzon.co.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.p...t=5&p=623#p623

DietPi-Software | Added DietPi optimized installation option for OpenVPN Server: http://fuzon.co.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.p...t=5&p=613#p613

    Changes:

DietPi-Software (RPi) | HQ audio is now enabled by default when alsa is flagged for install.

DietPi-Software (RPi armv6 Jessie) | FFmpeg will now install libs, rather than lib-dev packages: #84 (comment)

DietPi-Config > Tools > Benchmark | Vastly improved the accuracy of filesystem benchmarking. The recorded speeds should now be inline with "real world" usage. DD now uses 4K blocksize which is default for SSD and /tmp (ram).

General | Hostname on new installations has change from dietpi to DietPi.

General | Changed ondemand scaling up, to 50% cpu usage (previously 60).

    Bug fixes:

DietPi-Cloudshell | Resolved a memory leak caused by incorrect array usage.

General (Jessie) | Resolved issue with CRDA error print on tty1. Many thanks to Luis for the resolution: #102 (comment)

Orange Pi PC | Local sound now works, also added option to dietpi-config allowing you to change HDMI or 3.5mm default output.
