Default Introducing The Chord Electronics Mojo, The New Reference For Portable DAC’s/Headamps

    Hi All,

Just got back from the Shard in London where Chord Electronics have just been holding a launch event to announce what they are saying is their most important product yet, The Mojo, which stands for ‘Mobile Joy’ and is an affordable portable reference Dac and headphone amp.

It is based on Hugo technology but uses the new Xilinx Artix-7 FPGA chipset, making Mojo the most advanced DAC of its type on the planet! It has been designed to be easily operated, there are no confusing switches and can drive any headphone between 4 ohms and 800 ohms and can also drive two pairs of headphones simultaneously.

Mojo can work with any music file from 44.1kHz up to 768kHz and DoP DSD files: DSD 64; DSD 128 and DSD 256.Mojo can also decode a wide range of formats including PCM; WAV; AAC; AIFF; MP3 and FLAC files and is designed to work with all smartphones and music players. It has a full recall-memory for both input selection and previous volume set level.

Mojo utilises new advanced high-temperature battery technology that allows for faster charging (four hours) which is up to twenty hours faster than competitor units and all comes in a beautiful casework that is machined from solid aircraft-grade aluminium and has a hard Matt black fine finish that does not finger-mark. All inputs are denoted with a fine laser ablated permanent white lettering.

The feeling that was given at the launch was that this is a Hugo that is aimed for the masses as so many people use their phones for music but the DAC’s in all phones are shockingly poor, what Mojo will give is a massive improvement in sound quality from a small and easy to use product at an affordable price. How does it compare with Hugo? Well Rob Watts, the designer, said that although it is a newer and more powerful version of the Hugo FPGA chipset he has made Mojo to be more forgiving and not as dynamic as Hugo as Mojo probably won’t be used with many highend headphones but for more portable setups so Mojo is a smoother and more forgiving presentation but with the overall musicality of Hugo.

Mojo is available now, we have stock ready to ship, and is priced at a quite unbelievable £399, if you would like to come in for a listen anytime we also have Mojo on demo.

Briefly as we took it to the National Audio Show, but I only used HiFiMan HE-1000's on it so looking forward to trying it on a proper hifi rig.

We should have our demo model shortly, then the fun really begins :-)

Looking forward to hearing DAVE myself very soon. Chord certainly have an interesting take on their DAC development.

Think they are on the right track with their theories around transient timings and effect on hearing.
