    Default Pioneer PD S 801

Looking for some information chaps . A pioneer PD S 801 has come up locally for £75 ( or offers ) . How does this player rate in the big scheme of things . Is it worth a punt to be used as a stand alone player , or a transport into my Rega DAC . Any information appreciated .
    Regards
    Brian

That's a fair price and you should find it sounds pretty good as a stand alone player. If you wanted to use it as a transport you'd be limited to an optical digital out. Pioneer players seem more durable than many.

They are very definitely worth a try. I prefer the 'legato link conversion' models. The PD-S 703 seems popular and offers a digital coax output for those wishing to use a DAC. I have two PD-S 505 Precision players which offer the same and sound superb. Many of those offered for sale seem to be missing remote controls. Not a big deal. Pioneer CD player remotes appear on eBay for modest money regularly. Any Pioneer CD player or system remote seems to work with any player. I have a few just in case.

    I have a PD-S703 that I use as a transport.
I am happy with it. It sounds good on it's own, but the DAC just gives a little extra.
I don't know the 801, but 703s come up fairly regularly for a similar price.

The PD-S505 Precision is a player I am currently looking for.

I owned one years ago.Very decent sound but a Sony 715 I bought and still own completely outclassed it.
    Great transports though.
