    Default Speaker cabinet TLC

    Hi all.

Recently got me some new (rather large) speaker cabinets (Lockwood Majors) and I'm going to give them some TLC after over 50 years. lol

One of the things that need to be replaced is the gasket seal on the back panel. It's a very old (and to which has mostly disintegrated) foam tape seal. Looks like basic 6mm adhesive backed foam window seal tape.

Can anyone give me some advice on a better seal tape to use?

Also, has anyone used Bitumen panels on the inside of speakers? Not sure if this would yeald an improvement or not.

    Thanks
    Josie

I've used the Bitumen pads inside a pair of JBL 4311 and it seems to make a noticeable difference in cabinet resonance but they do add a considerable amount of weight to the speaker.

Also although they say sticky backed you really have to use something like double sided carpet tape to ensure they stay in place permanently.

Ive been using them on my builds and they do work on the ones Ive done. A definite improvement. The ones for cars are the cheapest and are silver on the outside. on ebay. a tin of carpet adhesive will improve adhesion.
