“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Just couldn't summon the will to reinstall Windows this morning .

Might do it later. That'll be me 'off air' for a few hours. Unless I can rig my KVM switch up and run two PC's.

That's soaked up about 12 hours of my computer time today. Been saving documents and images to a memory stick, prior to reinstalling Win 7 tomorrow (hopefully). Don't recall it taking anything like this long before for about 8gb of files. Mind you the PC is somewhat stuffed at the moment. Hence the O/S reinstall.

Really why bother, a bit like clinging to the sinking ship I suppose. This is far far better, https://www.linuxmint.com/

Dunno why you keep telling me each time I moan about Windows. I've got Linux if I want it! So there!!

Anyway. Back online after fun and games spending most of the day installing and then reinstalling Win 7, then fun with browsers. Got I.E 11 working and tried five installs of Maxthon before I was happy (sort of). Still got a few other third party software downloads to go. At least everything seems to be working OK now.

I can understand that you don't want to use Linux, but all that trouble to reinstall everything could be easily avoided with a backup of some sort.

If my main machine OS failed and I had to reinstall everything, it would be a horrible job, probably take me thee days. With a backup it would only take me minutes to get going again.

I usually Radiosure to listen to internet radio, it's quite good and free. However, this looks interesting, nothing to install, easy to use: http://www.internetradiouk.com/

Not really a disaster, but in the search for a near silent PC, I have just fitted a water cooling kit to my PC.
There is a substantial reduction in noise now, and it is superb as a media server as the noise distraction is much less.
