It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

The choice is clear I would have thought http://www.distrowatch.com
I cannot imagine anyone having transition aches if they simply choose Linux Mint http://www.linuxmint.com
it presents as easy to use and having all the features you need. For those who cannot be divorced install Wine
which enables .exe programs to run. The world of proper software is here, just take a look.

My main machine seems to refuse to boot to a memory stick created with Universal USB Installer https://www.pendrivelinux.com/univer...easy-as-1-2-3/ with Mint. I have tried many times, yesterday I used Rufus http://rufus.akeo.ie/ instead. It worked. I was amazed how well the machine performed, fast.

This was a physically tiny 8 GB USB memory stick. Only trouble with Rufus is that I don't think one can create a Persistent file.

Once you have Mint running on a USB you have choice to install it to the hard drive. If you need to keep your existing
operating system, you can by selecting the side by side option during install - just read the prompts carefully
    and select appropriately.
There is a really nice USB writer already in Mint. But a guide is here to get Mint on
    a drive https://mintguide.org/tools/317-make...inux-mint.html

Mint will create a proper journal system called ext4 and update what is called GRUB ( Grand Unified Booting ) )
to display each operating system, or just Mint if transitioning properly ie abandoning the other.
As I did in 2003, and never looked back. .

Done all that ages ago too, but I have decided that generally, I only want one operating system on a particular hard drive.

Correction, have not tried https://mintguide.org/tools/317-make...inux-mint.html will give it a go.

Yes, Linux Live USB Creator worked, thank you. Going to do it again as I only made a small persistent file.

More for browsing with safely, and maybe muzac too. This one was the wifes originally, and had been a bit of a basket case due to her shall we say unorthodox usage lol. Was a good un mind, it cost a lot in day a presario
