It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

I have hearing loss up to about -80dB, recently had an operation in one ear to bring that back to about -50 or so, am only 44 yrs old, but wear hearing aids, and find I can still enjoy a good stereo.

Do you wear aids? If not, you should try them. They take a couple of weeks to get used to, but are well worth the effort...

    Yes, both port and stb'd.
I use them principally for listening to the television, which, with those crappy miniature apologies for 'speakers, inevitably pointing downwards or to the rear, are an absolute travesty.
And that's not to mention the appalling audio quality transmitted by some of the stations. Grossly compressed, audible distortion, very low modulation index.

If one wants decent audio from a television it is assumed by the manufacturers that you will overcome their inability or unwillingness to provide such a facility by even more expense for a "sound bar". And how, exactly, is a pair of 'speakers separated by what, a metre, two metres, supposed to create anything which approaches a realistic sound stage?

The use of one's own audio system to complete the job means a digital/audio interface. More unnecessary expense.
Why not provide a pair of jacks into which one can plug their own 'speakers. Simple.
