As a 68 year old I find anyone dying of 'natural causes' at 72 more than a bit frightening. As ever, once you get to my age, the obituaries seem to leap from the page.

Cilla was a good entertainer and did well to have such a long career. I was watching some clips earlier. Brought back some memories for sure. She never seemed to me to be a natural performer but made good use of what she had.

    RIP.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Well, Gordon, you know what they say about 'three scores and ten'........ However, people generally are living longer now than ever, due to healthier diets, etc, so it certainly needn't be 'curtains' when you hit 70. It does hammer home the message, though, of the importance of looking after yourself. Your health is certainly your wealth!

I always liked Cilla, and apart from her singing career and relationship with The Beatles, I have fond memories from the 90s of her hosting the show 'Blind Date', which was always worth a giggle. Indeed, any show she hosted, her genuine warmth as a caring person shone through.

Also, like most celebrity scousers, she never let her wealth go to her head, and remained down to earth, always remembering and respecting her roots.

    R.I.P, Cilla.

There's some interesting comments on social media mostly from dockers and miners during the Thatcher era who don't seem that bothered that she's died.

Indeed, in the papers too. The word 'hateful' was used rather often. Perhaps a dictionary definition would be useful to them. She may or may not have been an unpleasant woman but it is them that are hateful. Glee over any death seems perverted at best.
