love the design of Braun stuff, looking nice.

No many people talk about those decks, how do they fair technically? - I'm guessing they are very well made.

    I'm very happy with it
I bought it second hand in the early 80s and it saw much partying in its day
Until recently I had done zero maintenance bar a couple of new stylii and relinking the bit of string that turns it on (seriously...)
According to Vinyl Engine it's a belt-drive although actually its a hybrid belt/idler. I thought the belt would be stretched after so much time so bought an NOS of eBay but found it made no difference. Speed is constant and seems to be accurate according to the on-board strobe. I have recently cleaned it up a bit and dropped some oily gubbins in it's spindle well (which stopped the wheeze acquired through over 3 decades of passive smoking). One of the hydraulic dampers had leaked a bit but seems to have been cured by tightening the jubilee clip around its gaiter. I also replaced the signal wire that had succumbed to copper rot ......

I still have the original Shure 75-6s that came with it and it works fine but has now been usurped by an even finer Ortofon MM jobby bought off of the equally fine Struth of this parish. This proved to be a doddle to set up.

All in all, only slightly tempted to save up for something with more sexy Swiss curves to replace this slightly austere (if impeccably mannered) German

Of course - make me an offer over £300 and I'll have a think .....
I paid a fraction of that when I found it in a junk shop in Amsterdam but hey - even this pile of scrap is very desirable fodder on eBay nowadays

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
