I really like the look of that turntable too Mike. Very handsome in a utilitarian kind of way. I'd have one!

    Cheers

    Thanks Loz

Utilitarian is the right word - 12.6 kilos of solid German engineering .... but with a surprisingly daft Achilles catch. The whole thing is activated by a 12 inch length of waxed fishing twine under tension, when the twine breaks, machine no go (and it does break...) and when the twine breaks the only remedy is turning over the 12.6 kilos to take the bottom plate off and thread a new piece of twine

Until recently I had done zero maintenance bar a couple of new stylii and relinking the bit of string that turns it on (seriously...)
According to Vinyl Engine it's a belt-drive although actually its a hybrid belt/idler. I thought the belt would be stretched after so much time so bought an NOS of eBay but found it made no difference. Speed is constant and seems to be accurate according to the on-board strobe. I have recently cleaned it up a bit and dropped some oily gubbins in it's spindle well (which stopped the wheeze acquired through over 3 decades of passive smoking). One of the hydraulic dampers had leaked a bit but seems to have been cured by tightening the jubilee clip around its gaiter. I also replaced the signal wire that had succumbed to copper rot ......

I still have the original Shure 75-6s that came with it and it works fine but has now been usurped by an even finer Ortofon MM jobby bought off of the equally fine Struth of this parish. This proved to be a doddle to set up.

All in all, only slightly tempted to save up for something with more sexy Swiss curves to replace this slightly austere (if impeccably mannered) German
lol indeed, austere, yet fun in a strange way.... German engineers with a sense of humour?... how can that be? . lol
