    Default Dougs Big Messy Stereo

If you're big on "dressing" your cables and getting everything just so, prepare to recoil in horror. My AV system (a TV, DVR, and VCR) live in the same place as my stereo, so there are cables running all over.

However, the system is (from left to right): the left Harbeth C7SE3, Rega P3/24 TT with external speed control, EAR 834P phono stage, Rega DAC, and Luxman 550AX integrated amp. The Luxman is new, and it's what I think of as my retirement amp -- it replaced an amp, preamp, and headphone amp. And if things get tight, it's got a decent phono stage, too..

What you don't see is the Squeezebox Touch. Oh, and the music server is in the other room...but it's just a computer, not all that interesting to look at.

    Welcome aboard Doug.

What leads ? Nothing at all wrong with that set-up.

You can't go wrong with a Luxman / Harb combo.

Looks good to me Doug - you have a nice system.

Don't worry about 'messy' leads - yours is quite tidy compared to the jumble behind my set up!

Lots of quality in your system and visible cables just set it off nicely

Thanks for the replies, all. I guess I've been listening to the Naim/LP12 crowd quite a bit about the cable issue ("Now, your tonearm cables must be just so..."). The appearance is not that important to me, I just believe it is to other people. I listened to music for about seven hours yesterday, and about the only time I looked at the stereo was to make sure that the loudness wasn't on. I went from tubes to solid state, and I'm still not used to the amount of bass I'm getting. It's not all that much if you compare it to the monster amps (> 100 watts) some folks have, but still.

Thanks, Jo. I do like the Harbeths. Here's a picture of the vinyl setup. It's nothing fancy, but most of my vinyl is old rock stuff, so it doesn't need to "pull that last smidgen of detail" out of the records. In fact, since the last vinyl I listened to was Black Sabbath, I might be horrified by more detail

Your very welcome, Doug. That is a superb vinyl setup... nothing wrong with that.

lol... yes, you don't want to hear too much in to Sabbath, you never know what's hidden in there...

    That's exactly my doctrine.

Build your system to suit your musical taste. Clinical detail and Sabbath just wouldn't go
