Amp upgrade needed

+1 for some of the later Quad 90x series of amps. As a confirmed Quad junkie I can vouch for the excellent quality of all Quad gear. The sound can be a little pipes and slippers compared to some SS amps but esentially they consistantley rate highly amongst most Audionuts!

What does pipe and slippers equate to in audible terms?

I'd prefer something that is musical and enjoyable to listen to, ideally without fatigue or harsh/brightness. Some hi-fi systems I've heard tend to be a little forward or bright for me, perhaps I'm leaning to pipe and slippers over the immediately impressive but ultimately tiresome sound of some systems?
