    Default Inexpensive SACD players?

I'm very much aware that SACD is seen as a marginal format these days with a small but hardcore following. I also know that the older Denon multi-disc DVD players (DVD-A, SACD) are still highly regarded and also seen as very good CD transports too. I once had an excellent Denon DVD-2900 but offloaded it for their DBP-2012UD multi disc BlueRay player when it came out back in 2012, so I'd guess that trying to source a black 2900 is where I'd look at going today if nothing else is suggested. But what other SACD players from the heady days of the format are highly regarded today?

Is there a problem with your Denon DBP-2012UD? I picked one up second hand off eBay and am very impressed with the SACD analogue stereo playback. Much better than my Sony blu ray BDP S380, but I find the Sony is much better for video.

Not at all Greg, my DBP2012-UD is providing sterling service, but as part of my AV system. I'm looking for a cost effective SACD player to add to my 2 channel setup

    Hi Pete

I have been using the Arcam DV137 for some years and have been really pleased with it. They can be had for under £200 in great condition.

    Cheers

    Hi Pete,

I can recommend a Toshiba SD900e, £ for £ the best bit of kit i ever bought,
i paid £80.00 and it hasn't missed a beat in the 7 yrs i've had it (maybe longer, memories bad),
dates back to 93 and was their top rank player at £1300.00,
i have been using it as a integrated player and reads everything, not a glitch ever,
seemingly it makes a killer transport, 15kg of copper clad loveliness, the smoothness of the transport is a sight to behold,
think i saw someone trying to sell the later SD9000e, minter and was struggling to give it away for £40.00.

Tried a Philips 963sa and a Marantz 7001 Ki Sig, the first due to it being a HiFi+ component of the year winner,
not even close and the transport was cheap in comparison, Marantz was a little better than the Philips but the Tosh topped it,
also the Marantz had probs with some discs, both sold on with no loss,
i'd like to ad SACD and DVD Audio discs is top notch with the SD900e .

Many thanks Andy... the SD9000e is on my shortlist, albeit, there don't seem to be many of them about at present. Its the same for the older Denon players universal players too, which must tell us something about how good they are at transport duties. I may even look at cashing in my Moon Nova CDP and see what higher end universal players are about, especially if they spin HDCD and standard CD's too...
