    Default Hello all from Leicestershire

Hi all, great to see another UK audio forum!
Shocked I haven't heard of this before having been a member of AVforums, PFM and DIYAudio since 07 (same alias)
I'm looking to do a serious system upgrade and move from mid tier budget to high end audio so will be heading over to the classified area.

As an Electrical Engineer I'm looking to pair a couple of sets of high end floorstanders for a monsterous 6 channel 2400W amp I'm developing.

    Hello Matt. Welcome to AOS.

I'm surprised you'd not come across this site before. Anyway, you've arrived at the friendliest Hi-Fi forum about.

Your amp project should generate a fair bit of interest here. There is a Drawing Board section for practical venture threads and I'm sure members would appreciate seeing what you're doing.

Tell us what system changes you have in mind and what music tastes you have.

    Enjoy the forum,
    Geoff.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

    Welcome to AoS Matt,

Your 400W/channel amp sounds interesting. Please keep us informed of its progress.

What do you intend to use as the source: vinyl, CD or download?

    Enjoy the Forum

Thanks for the interest everyone. At the moment I'm running some 602 S3 B&W's along side some Mission Floorstanders, crossed over with a DIY sonotube subwoofer flat to 16Hz which I built some years back.

My music taste is vast from contemporary and traditional classical, pipe organ and neo classical, to soft/pop rock and progressive rock/ metal.

The amp project is a huge undertaking and is progressing slowly.. At the moment I have the huge heatsinks, 282000uf of Capacitors (6 x 47000uF) and a 4kVA toroidal which needs rewinding to a suitable voltage. I have quite a complex architecture designed around auto power saving and auxillary power control which is still being tweaked. When I start to enter the build phase I will get it posted on here. The only similar amps commercially available I know of are some of the Earthworks Cinenova series, but these lack some features of the higher end systems found on Classe etc I hope to replicate.

My source is a high quality studio mastering soundcard on a PC, running software DRC and crossovers for the speakers which has lasted well so far. Audio Format is ofcourse uncompressed FLAC/ALAC/APE/WAV.

    Cheers.

Here's an update of the amp in progress. Cabinet design and electrical system design is finish but circuit design remains.
