“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”
“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Hi Kris. Welcome to AOS.
I'm sure you'll find plenty to interest you here, valves are a popular topic and there are very knowledgeable members.
Why not start a thread in the Blank Canvas section outlining what you have in mind, you'll get plenty of replies.
If you have a system currently tell us about it and about your music preferences.
Enjoy the forum,
Geoff.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Thanks for the warm welcome - in terms of music a little bit of jazz, a little bit of folk, a little bit of funk in fact most things that aren't opera or full on death metal!
I've gradually over the past few years been getting kit that sounds better and better down the one box route (starting from £99 Argos special), I've now got a Naim Unitilite and a set of Monitor Audio Silver 2's but(!) I'm just kind of wondering could I get something more enveloping (is that a phrase) and warmer? Vinyl and valves seem to give something above what my current experience has included (CD's and digital).
The blank canvas section sounds a good idea - a bit more reading past threads first!
