Default My budget vintage (mostly) system

after spending far too much time playing around with various bits and pieces I kept picking up and playing very little music over the last couple of months I think I am happy with the sound and look of this budget system. Now planning on concentrating on cleaning and playing my old vinyl.

looks great Sean; especially the amp and TT... my bro has a unit that looks pretty similar to that for his stereo.

A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

    sansui 222 mk 2....nice!!
I think the left speaker could benefit from being pulled away from the wall though...bass boom ahoy.

I'll try moving the speaker further from the wall, haven't played with placement at all yet. It's all a bit squashed up to the left, it's a garden room and the tv was placed there to keep it in the shade before I had blinds and I ought to move it more centrally but I've been too lazy. I've kept the 5.1 system separate so the speaker doesn't need to be left of the tv.

I was trying to hide the speaker because the woofer doesn't match!

Love the aesthetic of it, have to admit I'm always swayed by a tape deck with VU meters..

    What was it I had before..Marantz SD1015 I think?

yes I really like the look of it but I think I would be tempted to swap the tape deck for a Pioneer CT-F2121 if I can find one cheap, not simply because it is a Pioneer but because the cylinder switches for play etc. better match the amp.

    That's retrotastic!

As I said, there's a "different" aesthetic about vintage kit..and its gorgeous imo.

thanks, yes they are Castle Clyde's. The left one looks as though the woofer has been replaced. It also had a couple of fine slits in the rubber which I have glued at the moment with some glue from a previous refoam project and it sounds good to me but I may try changing the rubber at some point.

I'm trying to stop buying gear but this week I picked up a p12d turntable cheap with a view to having a full pioneer set up but having had it delivered on Friday I don't think it looks as good as the Sansui although it does sound good. I also couldn't resist a Pioneer SA 506 amp for a £5 on gumtree yesterday. It was untested but it has power vu meters for left and right channels and I thought it might match better with the tape and tuner which have meters. Seems to work fine except one of the meter lights doesn't work (I was talked through a similar repair on the tape deck by Barbarian on here so will give repairing this a go). Seeing it next to the SA7300 I don't think it looks as good, but will play with it with the turntable for a while - might just need to pick up some more speakers for them after just selling some perfectly good Kef's as I've connected the Castles at the moment.

    Sean
