I got the Corelli baffles and backs resprayed in satin black earlier. May yet give the veneer another fine rub down and a final coat of finish.
Got a dull headache now. Happens every time I use paint that gives off smelly fumes.

Looks great mate. Smashing. Will be one of the best pairs in country.

Oh my god! There's nothing wrong with the bidet is there?
“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”
“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Getting there.
Current Lash Up:
TEAC VRDS 701T > Sony TAE1000ESD > Krell KSA50S > JM Labs Focal Electra 926.
After letting the black parts dry properly, I re-inspected the veneer finish and decided the satin acrylic had sealed the surface adequately, so I rubbed it down all over gently, first with a red (fine) Scotchbrite pad, then some fine wire wool and then I applied heavy furniture wax. This was followed with a polish once dried and it came up just as I wanted. Fairly lustrous, but not over glossy. Just the job!
I've also measured the crossover cap values. They seem all over the place. Not entirely surprising for forty year old electrolytics. I'll order some replacements.

They came up good. Lovely finish.

As I was at a loose end, awaiting capacitors for my Corelli renovation, I had a ponder about a pre-amp to go with the Quad 306. Well, this is now on its way to me.
Yes. It's a Moth Series 30 pre-amp. But not the usually seen passive unit. This is the very rare and extremely good active pre-amp. It should be an excellent match to the Quad. As soon as it arrives, I'll give it a basic service and respray the wood front panel in black to match the rest of my gear. If you've not heard the Moth amps, well, they are nothing short of excellent! The MM/MC phono stage is a wonderful sounding little device. I had one for years.
It's a Stan Curtis design and here's a bit from him about it:
This is just a bit of fun really. I already have two extremely good pre-amps!

That's a fantastic finish you have got on those cabinets, Geoff. But what happened to the white-ish patches on the woodwork (filler?) evident in the photos in post 282? Why doesn't it show through the new satin acrylic and wax finish?
