“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”
“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

More goodies for the collection. Just won these on ebay. Anybody recognise them?
Were it not for the die-cast baskets - I would have said EMI 13 x 8" ellipticals, but those I think had pressed metal baskets.
So, no idea. Do tell!

I'm Shane.
They kinda look like my grandfather's slippers
S.
They are EMI. But they were sold as unidentified. These are one of the 14a/770 series I believe. The cast chassis elliptical EMI's were used by Monitor Audio, Proac and Mordaunt Short amongst others and of course in EMI's own systems. The grey vinyl roll surrounds are unusual, these are normally black.
Come on then Geoff what are they man?
Other than more big bass drivers you're never going to use.
Not that there is anything wrong with that. I like drivers.
EDIT oh I see you told us already. Barry wins.
Current Lash Up:
TEAC VRDS 701T > Sony TAE1000ESD > Krell KSA50S > JM Labs Focal Electra 926.
Date? i used something similar to make (well made, but atrocious) speakers in school, circa 1965/6.
Didn't even know about sound baffles etc.! Single valve, bought in electronic shop,on a strip chassis, amps......
Chris.
EMI made a variety of 13" x 9" elliptical speakers from the fifties into seventies.
Some basic and cheap and others like those just bought by me, much more advanced and quite expensive at the time.
They could sound very fine, others not so much. The alloy framed versions had slightly greater overall dimensions, but the cone measurements were fairly constant. Some had aluminium cone centres, some didn't. Same with the PVC cone surrounds, the cheap models did not feature them. Several featured tweeters mounted across the front of the speaker in various configurations.
