Picked up another cheap 'spares only' PL-12D.

It arrived yesterday. Looked pretty good, but would not rotate. The main bearing was completely seized. I took the bearing out and could not budge the shaft, it felt as though it was 'superglued' in place. Anyway, I soaked it overnight in cellulose thinners and voila! It spins. Now perfectly free and no wear in it. Very nice. I'll give it a clean and lube and bung it back in. Everything else on the TT is working fine and in tidy nick.

There will be those who think to themselves 'why the hell is he fucking about with that old thing?'

There is a reason. I play records very infrequently now, so basically, I'm aiming to have one simple and reliable deck for the occasional spin of a record. I don't want to have much money invested in this either, but functionality and reliability are important. The PL-12D fits the criteria! They have bullet proof dependabilty and sound better than most would credit. There are a few tweaks that can be made to help things too.

    Yes...............and no!

Not sure where all this will be going, it's a bit of fun, but I likely will be radicalising my record playing side of things.

I've often though the name Rek-O-Kut was chosen because that what it would do to your records.

I remember the make, but know little about them.

If I was looking for a vintage American TT, I'd be keeping an eye out for an Empire of some sort I think.

Now that's better, despite the vulgar 'bling', the Empire Troubadour had a superb 1" diameter bearing.
