It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!
Connoisseur BD1's are good fun if you want something to play with. The sound quality is waaay better than their looks would have you believe. They're cheap, dead easy to work on and parts are not hard to find.
This is one of my spare ones.
Here's the last one I built a base for.
I expect Adam (Beobloke) will be along in a mnute to say something rude about them.

Still playing with the PL-12D.

I have two now actually. Both Mk.I PL-12D's and both bought cheap. Funny thing is, the first one sounded crap, but the second example sounds much better. Blowed if I know why. I've serviced both and they are identical.
I tried a Grado F1+ cartridge first, which I know from using it in my main deck, is a nice sounding thing, but in the Pioneer it sounds coarse and unrefined. I resorted to a Shure M75ED Type 2, which I didn't expect to sound as good, but it is way better. Smooth, revealing and clean (it came free with the second PL-12D and looks new).
Next surprise (or maybe not ) was swapping mats about. I first tried using the standard mat, which was passable. Then a felt mat that sounded awful (not unexpectedly). Next a heavyweight rubber mat with fake suede finish. This beefed up the sound, tightened it and gave better focus. A heavier mat is an old dodge with these TT's.
I fitted some Van Damme cabling from the deck to the phono stage, but had one channel dropping out, despite the meter reading good continuity. Dodgy plug I think. I'll re-do that.
I did notice some slight hum with the Grado. They are a bit prone to it with TT's that have steel top plates (as can Deccas be too).

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”
“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
