Even in the '70s there were small ads in the back of magazines such as the Gramophone and Hi Fi News (& Record Review) offering cash and collection of vintage audio gear, regardless of condition: Quad; Leak; Radford; Lowther; Tannoy; Thorens; Garrard; Ortofon; Decca, etc.

Yes indeed there were. I was selling old Leak and suchlike to dealers over 20 years ago. It is true that you are unlikey to get the market value if you sell to such people. But you do get a simple, quick transaction, money in your hand and no being messed about by tyre kickers and such like. In the past 12 months I have had two different people say they were coming to collect speakers. Neither turned up and neither bothered let me know that they had changed their minds. This way you save all of that sort of aggravation.
