Heard those many years ago Bev and to be honest, I can't really recall what they were like. They have the tulip waveguide dual magnet driver, which I believe is a close relative of the drive unit in the Turnberry, which seems to be well liked. Have a look for some online reviews. I expect somebody here will have more recent experience of them.

My father used to own the Tannoy Sandringham. Lovely sounding speakers and very well made!

The grills are just simply gorgeous in all the Tannoy Prestige range.

Bev I really like them, of all the more modern Tannoys, the Prestige range are my favourites. I was just about to buy a set of Stirlings when my MG/Lockwoods came along. Very detailed and dynamic, with the staggering DC imaging, well worth a listen.

I am currently playing with a pair of Tannoy Stirling HE's.

Tannoy Stirling HE by RSdesignUK, on Flickr

They are nice, and I certainly could live with them but having some issues getting them optimal in my room. I was hoping, from what I had read that they would be perfect for rear wall positioning, but in my room, they certainly benifit from being a good 8-10" away from the walls.
My B60 is back with PMC being looked at so I have them running off a T-Amp right now and its OK, nowhere near as good as the Bryston but more than just making noise.

As above, they are nice and dynamic, good detail although I find the treble controls usefull in my room. Overal I prefer my Rega R9s that are out on loan but the Stirlings are certainly very good but would be a lot more suited to a larger room than mine. I really like the Imaging/soundstage that you get from the Dual Concentric drivers.

The Stirling came in a variety of flavours (IIRC)

Stirling (oldest and original standmount with the SRM10B driver)
Stirling TW (Standmount with Tulip Waveguide driver)
Stirling HE (floorstanding with Tulip Waveguide driver)
    Stirling SE (Revised HE model)
    Stirling GW (Brand New)
    Michell Mycro / AT33PTG/II | Ray Samuels F-117 Nighthawk | Yamaha CD-NT670D | Bryston B60R | ATC SCM10

    Default DC1000

Are these DC1000's complete rubbish? They seem to be pretty cheap and I was wondering if they would give me a cheap taste of dual concentric drivers...just a thought... I can get a pair for about £70

They're good fun Bev. They're actually cleaner sounding than the bigger DC2000. At £70 you can't go wrong, if you don't like them you can probably get more than that back on them. I had a pair years ago and enjoyed them. They go damn loud too on very little power.
