    Default Hi

I was given a link to this forum some time ago by someone who posts on NickG's audio-talk forum. I joined but have never posted until now.

I took another look here last week following a question posted on pfm by Hamish and I finally noticed that new members are supposed to introduce themselves, so here I am.

I'm 50 and come from Newcastle. I joined the Services at 17 and served 12 years before leaving in 1987. It was during this time I discovered British hifi and changed a Technics based system to a Naim one.

My initial move away from the Technics was the purchase of an LP12/Ittok, 32.5/snaps/160 driving JBL L110's, then Kans/Sara's/Epos14 (and various others along the way) before changing to CD. I ended up using the same Naim amp but with a CDX/CDPS and SBLs. I had this all Naim system for a period but I hardly listened to any music for almost 12 months, so realising a mistake I began to investigate a change and that's how I arrived at my current system, which is a Squeezebox, diyhifisupply Ella PP valve amplifier, a Django TVC and a Hifi World KLS3 MKII floorstanders. I recently sold a Meridian 206B and have a Rotel 965BX LE Discrete as a backup when I'm not using the SQ.

I live in the Midlands and work in IT.

    Welcome Brian,
The usual requests to all new members are please post some pics of your set up (it sounds interesting - no pun intended) and tell us about your tastes in music. It's a very friendly helpful place and all new members are particularly welcome. A sense of humour is also a useful attribute to bring with you but some of our members stretch the word 'humour' way beyond it's normal limits on occassions .
    Cheers,
    DaveK.

    Photo's uploaded to the Gallery.

I'm stuck in a timewarp regarding musical tastes. I listen to old Tamla Motown stuff regularly, probably more than anything else. I also like Genesis, Elton John, 10cc, Pink Floyd, Free, REM, Steely Dan, Santana, U2, Van Morrison, Greenday and such like. I have some classical but mainly compilations that I don't bother with much.

    Hi again Brian,
Nice pics of interesting kit. Personally I am a solid state man myself - haven't graduated to valves yet - so I can't comment much more but loads of others around here can and will . My comment is limited to, "There's an awful lot of fresh air inside that box - does it run hot?"
Again, with regards to your taste in music, not much of it 'floats my boat' but I recognise the names of groups that other forum members have said they appreciate so expect some comments on that aspect as well.
Hope your stay here is long and enjoyable.
    Cheers,
    DaveK.

    Welcome

We'll have to add some Tangerine dream to the music taste list, but apart from that, you're only a couple of years younger than me.......

I wish I had some room and money to replace some of my fondly remembered gear. A bolt-up Naim 250 and some later ES14's would have to be there. If anyone finds a Lustraphone LP100 amp PLEASE let me know as mine, plus a friends old one, went to a collector apparently, never to be seen again..
