    3. Paradise phonostage might be getting some new mods depending on feedback on a new design.

    4. Garrard 301 PSU is still being sourced. This is proving difficult.

Its going to be a busy year!
Did you get sorted on that front? I may be able to build you such a thing depending on requirements and of course budget.....

Hmmm, Let's just say that 2015 turns out to be very different to what it started as…

In 2015 I wanted to build a valve preamplifier (vaguely based on the Audio Note M7, sic!)
I wanted to make some bespoke cross overs for the Tannoy LGM 12"
I wanted to pimp my Heybrook TT2 to a dedicated PSU (something of the flavour of a Geddon Clone)
Also build some good IC's following some very popular recipes found on AOS.

    But…

It looks like I am going to have to downsize drastically.
Financial pressure to start anew with 0 debts are mounting and I just decided to give in.
So gone is the 845 SET integrated, gone soon 2 of my TT's, gone a stock of spare valves and various bits of HIFI pish…

The very positive fact was to discover the raspberry PI + IQ Audio DAC+ (thanks Marco!). It answered all my questions. Best VFM ever! I ended up selling the Squeezebox Touch and Arcam rDac in an instant, so much better the sound was, coming from that diminutive box of tricks!

So, now I am actually wondering on which TT to keep, which arm and which cart?
I was listening to the Heybrook TT2 last night with the Audiomods 4 with micrometer VTA and the AN IQ3, and I was at first pleasantly surprised at the smoothness and the width and breath of the soundstage.
YELLO - The Race opened with such an amazing soundscape, the bass was solid and full weight. I thought, my God, this is the ONE!

But then I played a few DECCA classics, Curzon playing Brahms First Piano under the conducting of Gorge Szell and the Midband started slurring quite badly, the Highs were veiled despite the bass being still very solid.
Well, as they says you can't have you cake and eat it…

Sounds like the search is still on, only one Turntable can stay... Next the AN IQ3 + Audiomods on the Lenco.

ou might slip, you might slide, you might
Stumble and fall by the road side
But don't you ever let nobody drag your spirit down
Remember you're walking up to heaven

Don't let nobody turn you around
… Walk with the rich, walk with the poor
Learn from everyone, that's what life is for
And don't you let nobody drag your spirit down

I've been attempting three things: anti-vibration control, power supply, and CD cleaning/preparation.

For the power supply I looked at regenerators, conditioners and a balanced mains supply, deciding on a regenerator. I also put in a dedicated radial which achieved nothing but a handily placed socket!

For anti-vibration I looked at feet and platforms to go under my gear, and platforms under my speakers. I used Symposium products mostly.

I'm still investigation CD cleaning. Here's an interesting video on the subject:

All these additions apparently improve the noise levels so that generally you get a more musical feel to the music.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

I originally wanted these 4 things to be done before the end of the years.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    1. New Tannoy cabs are now being designed.

    2. TEAC VRDS 25X will at some point this/next month be appraised for discrete power regulation.

    3. Paradise phonostage might be getting some new mods depending on feedback on a new design.

    4. Garrard 301 PSU
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, the Tannoy cabs are now finished so thats one thing off the list.

I've finally found somebody thats going to put the 301 PSU together.

The Paradise is the next stage, so I need to get in contact with Simon.....

Default What are your HiFi 2015 projects?

    None.

I started 2015 with the specific intention of getting my Technics TT to a point where sonically it would surpass any other I own or have owned.
Now it's complete and I'm happy with the result

Mine is still finishing my TT. It is still in bare wood and needs veneering. The veneer is here but the contact adhesive required is in the UK.

Allegedly, the delivery of said adhesive is dependent on a house extension being completed somewhere in the West Midlands. Actually, I reckon he is just enjoying gallivanting about the UK showing off his latest bottles instead of coming back out here

It does mean I have to listen to music instead of working though

Well it's been a while since I started this thread. I've managed to get my Tannoy cabs sorted and the 301 PSU is still under investigation (the options are being assessed) . I'm now in a pickle. I was going to get a new SUT made for the valve system, but new Paul over at RFC is making "The Ultimate" XO for the Tannoys. So, do I get the SUT first or do I get Paul to start making me a pair of new XO's?
