Will the guy be your friend any more if they later ask "how's the hifi I sold you?" and you have to choose whether to lie and say it's great, or admit you sold it straight away, then he assumes you did it for profit and gets the hump. Some people won't care, others will. Best to be upfront about it probably.

I'm not really looking to make a load of cash. Not even sure what he has or what 70/80s Quad stuff is even worth. It started because I was interested in the vinyl, and possibly the TT, but seeing as they don't want to sell the vinyl and I now have a TT, I am kind of wondering what the interest really is.

Do you think anyone on here is likely to be interested in some old Quad stuff?

    Of course.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

I'll find out what they have and see what he wants to do.

Have to work out a charm offensive for the jazz vinyl!

PS. Grant, on your sig, could you add in where you bought all your individual pieces from with dates, prices paid and maybe marks out of ten. I just don't feel there is enough information in there.

Do you really need a back-up record puck?

    Be honest with yourself here.

Is that a euphamism along with Jazz mags? Always clean secondhand "jazz vinyl" before putting into use - don't know how it was, err... "cared for" previously.

Default The scores on the doors...

so now I am in possession of:

    QUAD 33

    QUAD 303

    QUAD FM3

    SYSTEMDEK IIX

    LINN BASIK LV X / A&R P77

Annoyingly I seem to have lost one of the arcane power cables that would link the FM3 to the 33. I am guessing one will not be too hard to track down but I shan't be hanging on to it either way really. Other than that everything is present and correct.

I have plumbed in the 33/303 between my CDP/PMCs and it is rather lovely really. I haven't done a big compare to my Brio3, but I am pretty sure it sounds nicer. I certainly like the look of it for a change anyway. Condition is that the 33 has cleaned up okay but it is far from MINT. It all works though on initial testing and I have listened to Dave Brubeck TIME OUT about four times so far and should probably just go to bed....

I actually like it enough that I am thinking about selling all the QUAD on, and getting maybe some other QUAD stuff. Brief googling suggests a 44/405-2 might be fun.

Not sure about the SYSTEMDEK. I think it will also be moved on, though there is a small chip to the glass platter at the centre hole. Other than that it looks to be in fantastic condition. I think it would probably make more sense to sell the arm separately, though I am also wondering whether it is worth trying it out on my TD-150/2. A little googling suggests probably its not worth the effort.

Any thoughts on any of that, oh wise community?

    Robert
